Langley’s STEAM Philosophy

Our goal is to help students de- velop essential technology skills, knowledge, confidence, and thought processes that will fuel their future academic and career success.

STEAM is a multidisciplinary approach to learning that integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, and where students are immersed in hands-on learning that fosters innovation, develops higher-order thinking, and addresses real-world issues. We intentionally integrate inquiry-based learning, design, and social-emotional learning so that students are able to answer meaningful questions and solve complex problems in a global society.
Leveraging the standards from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), we continually evaluate, pilot, and implement innovative technology tools that amplify and accelerate teaching and learning.

Our Curriculum & Skill Development

Starting in junior kindergarten, students are exposed to age-appropriate digital tools.

Teachers facilitate a student-cen- tered, inquiry-based process that inspires creativity, discovery, problem-solving, and risk-taking. To support this, students have access to materials and consumables to maximize idea creation and prototype building.

And, to ensure they are facile across platforms, they are exposed to multiple devices and programs.

NEXT SCHOOL PLACEMENT

Preparing confident, self-aware young people for high school – and lives of self-determined significance

As our students enter eighth grade, we draw on the self-awareness, self-motivation, and academic prowess attained at Langley to help them choose and apply to the high schools that best fit who they have become and will become in the years ahead.

This active, reflective transition process occurs at a crucial moment in each student’s personal development. As the process unfolds, students come to truly understand and articulate their own identity, empowering them to step confidently into the wider world. And there’s no better practice for college applications.

Langley’s high school placement team is here to support our families every step of the way throughout this transformational process.

Our Curriculum & Skill Development

Finding solutions to complex problems requires curiosity, empathy, and ingenuity.

At Langley, inquiry-based learning engages our students in discovery, exploration, and guided practice, developing strong core academic skills, conceptual understanding, and critical thinking. Social-emotional learning develops our students’ emotional intelligence, cultural responsiveness, health and wellness, and resilience. Together, these complementary components of our curriculum promote intellectual flexibility, perspective-taking, interdisciplinary and interpersonal connection, collaboration, and innovation.

Student Life

Fostering uncommonly grounded, joyful, confident young people

At Langley, going to school means much more than going to class. We see every moment of the school day as a chance for students to learn more about themselves and the wider world. That’s why we constantly seek out and create opportunities for discovery and connection – throughout and beyond the school day.

Our exuberant assemblies strengthen and energize our entire community. Our no-cut athletics program inspires intentional teamwork, invigorating competition, and lifelong healthy habits. Our elective program inspires new passions and skills from day one. Service learning nurtures compassion and spurs innovation. And day and overnight field trips enhance learning, build independence, and strengthen bonds with teachers and peers.

In this atmosphere of enthusiastic encouragement and sensible risk-taking, students’ confidence, self-awareness, compassion, and judgment grow by leaps and bounds.
